Break Bulk
Trainees will be able to handle lumber, pulp and break bulk cargo (boxes and crates, large vehicles, yacht, equipment components, etc) as part of a Regular Gang or a Specialty Gang, performing the assigned longshore duties of the Slingman, Holdman and Spares and following established safety policies & practices and general & role specific work procedures.

Bulk Labour
Trainees will be able to unload various types of bulk commodities and complete the necessary clean-up of systems used to transport the cargo over the sites for each labourer role, following established safety policies, practices and procedures at the Neptune and Kinder Morgan terminals.

Bulk Operator’s Training
Using equipment control panels and computer screens, trainees will be able to operate bulk handling machinery and equipment to ship and receive different bulk commodities at the Kinder Morgan Canada, Pacific Coast, Neptune, and Fibreco terminals, following established safety measures and precautions, and operating procedures for each piece of equipment.

Compressor Car Shuttle Wagon
Trainees will be able to operate the compressor car and shuttle wagon, following established safety precautions and practices, and operating procedures.

Container Terminal Head Checker
Trainees will be able to perform the operational duties of each of the container head checker jobs in tracking the movement of container traffic at the Centerm and Vanterm terminals using computer systems and associated equipment, following established general and site specific safety practices and precautions and operating procedures.

Crane and Ship Gantry (Winch Driver)
Following established safety and operating practices and procedures, trainees will be able to safely and efficiently operate pedestal and ship gantry cranes on specific break bulk vessels to handle and stow a variety of cargo including pulp, lumber, steel, logs, heavy lifts, salt, wood chips, sacked or bagged cargo, and specialized project cargo.

Dock Gantry Crane Operator Training
Trainees will be able to discharge and load container vessels at the Vanterm, Centerm, Fraser Surrey and Deltaport terminals, following safety measures, precautions, operating principles and rules that ensure the safe and efficient use of the dock gantry crane.

Dozer
Trainees will be able to operate the dozer following established safety precautions and practices and operating procedures to push, shear, cut, and roll material ahead of the tractor at the Neptune and Fibreco terminals and on vessels transporting salt and sugar.

Electrician Apprenticeship
Trainees will be able to install, maintain and repair many types of electrical equipment in residential, commercial and industrial establishments - in accordance with the Canadian Electrical Code - in addition to installing, connecting and testing electrical wiring systems for light, heat and power.

Excavator Operator Training
Trainees will be able to complete inspections and perform start-up, operating and shut-down procedures at the Vancouver Wharves and Neptune terminals using excavators from a number of different manufacturers, following established safety rules and precautions and operating concepts and procedures.

Front End and Skid-Steer (Bobcat) Loaders
Following established safety practices and operating procedures, trainees will be able to safely and efficiently operate the front end and skid steer (bobcat) loaders to perform a variety of functions with different types of materials at various sites in the Port of Vancouver.

Heavy Duty Mechanic Apprenticeship
Trainees will be able to diagnose electrical, mechanical, air and hydraulic troubles on a variety of heavy duty equipment types and make complete the required adjustments, repairs or replacements according to the manufacturer’s specifications, using the appropriate hand and power tools & specialized equipment in accordance with all safety practices and procedures.

Heavy Lift Truck Operator
Following established safety practices, precautions and operating procedures, trainees will be able to operate three heavy lift trucks – top pick, side pick and reach stacker - to transport containers between designated blocks and street trucks or rail cars, safely and efficiently, at the Centerm and Vanterm terminals.
