Minister Raitt Announces Appointment to Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety
OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Oct. 13, 2011) - Today, the Honourable Lisa Raitt, Canada's Minister of Labour, announced the appointment of Mr. John Beckett as a part time employer group representative on the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS), effective immediately.
Mr. Beckett is currently the Vice President of Training, Safety and Recruitment for the British Columbia Maritime Employers Association. He is also the President of the Employers Forum to WorkSafeBC (the Workers' Compensation Board of British Columbia). He holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Royal Roads University. In addition, Mr. Beckett is a Canadian Registered Safety Professional. The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety, located in Hamilton, Ontario, was created in 1978 to promote the fundamental right of Canadians to a healthy and safe working environment. Governed by a tripartite council representing the federal, provincial and territorial governments, employers and workers, the Centre provides Canadians with unbiased and relevant information that supports responsible decision making on health and safety issues in the workplace.
