Respectful Workplace Workshop

The Human Resources Department of the BCMEA in conjunction with Marino Sveinson labour lawyer from the law firm of Roper Greyell held a series of Respectful Workplace Training seminars in the Spring 2012.  The 3 hour workshop was designed for managers, superintendents, foremen, union business agents or anyone who interact with longshore workers and employees on a daily basis.  Discussions centred around human rights, discrimination, harassment and bullying, creating a respectful workplace and appropriate workplace conduct.

Participants learn

• What harassment is, personal harassment, violence in the workplace and what isn’t harassment
• Employer, employee and union responsibilities
• Relevant legal concepts and principles
• How concepts are considered and enforced at law
• Expectations and processes to ensure a respectful workplace
