Labour Relations

The Labour Relations department is responsible for the interpretation and administration of the Collective Agreement negotiated between the BCMEA and the ILWU-Canada on behalf of our respective members. Labour Relations staff provide contract interpretation and dispute resolution services to members on a 24 hour per day seven day per week basis.

In addition to contract interpretation and dispute resolution matters, staff manage all grievances from their initial stage until final resolution up to and including Arbitration if necessary.

Staff represent member interests in complaints filed with the Canadian Industrial Relations Board, the Canadian Human Rights Commission and other regulatory Agencies. They are also responsible for ensuring that the BCMEA complies with Canadian Employment Equity legislation.
