The Labour Relations department is responsible for the interpretation and
administration of the Collective Agreement negotiated between the BCMEA and the
ILWU-Canada on behalf of our respective members. Labour Relations staff provide
contract interpretation and dispute resolution services to members on a 24 hour
per day seven day per week basis.
In addition to contract interpretation and dispute resolution matters, staff
manage all grievances from their initial stage until final resolution up to and
including Arbitration if necessary.
Staff represent member interests in complaints filed with the Canadian
Industrial Relations Board, the Canadian Human Rights Commission and other
regulatory Agencies. They are also responsible for ensuring that the BCMEA
complies with Canadian Employment Equity legislation.
