Confidential Incident Reporting Program
The BCMEA is pleased to introduce a confidential incident reporting program
where any employee covered by a collective agreement on the Waterfront can raise
their concerns regarding negative workplace behaviour or conditions directly to
a facilitator who will hear and explore the concerns raised.
BCMEA wishes to
promote awareness of this program which will operate in-conjunction with
existing BCMEA member employer policies which are applicable to any incident
being raised. Both the BCMEA and any employer are also bound by strict
confidentiality standards. These standards will be reviewed with the concerned
employee prior to any discussion of an incident.
What constitutes negative workplace behaviour?
- Offensive written or verbal communications or gestures which have the effect of
threatening, humiliating, or belittling an individual;
- Bullying, Inappropriate touching or physical contact;
- Remarks, jokes or other comments regarding someone’s gender, physical, or
personal characteristics;
- Any negative workplace behaviour or actions that compromise personal safety.
Confidentiality:
All incidents reported under this program will be handled in the strictest of
confidence. Confidentiality issues will be discussed with any employee accessing
the program before any discussion of an incident.
Interference:
Any interference with the reporting or pursuing of an incident raised under this
program will not be tolerated.
Principles of Application:
The program does not interfere or amend or reduce an individual’s rights to
pursue an incident through the grievance procedure or external agencies such as
the Canadian Human Rights Commission or the Courts.
How to report an Incident:
Confidential reporting of an incident can be done 24 hours a day seven days a
week by calling: 1-888-694-2844 or by scheduling a confidential in person
meeting with the BCMEA facilitator. Those persons wishing to meet in person
with the facilitator have the option of scheduling the meeting off site.
When reporting incidents certain information will be required to process the
incident report such as: a description of the incident, when it took place and
who was involved.
THE BCMEA WILL HEAR AND PROCESS YOUR REPORTED INCIDENT IN A TIMELY AND
CONFIDENTIAL MANNER.
